Microsoft announced its acquisition of voice technology experts Tellme Networks (rumor is they spent $800M for this their second largest acquisition) which eventually will inject new technology into Microsoft's Unified Communications platform strategy. In the analyst call discussing this acquisition, Jeff Raikes, president of the Microsoft business Division, pointed out that he expects, within three years,100 million people will have click to call capabilities within applications they're using. That's an interesting observation and it speaks toward some of the evolution in the infrastructure that will be needed to handle this load -- many more calls coming in, most of which will be handled by automated voice-enabled service platforms. As we've discussed here before, Cisco and Microsoft each has its own version of a Unified Communications platform strategy. It's interesting to see how Microsoft can spin this infrastructure strategy with client side capabilities.
